Recovery in Community (RIC) Volunteer Advocate:

Becoming a RIC Volunteer Advocate is an opportunity to serve your community in an important and richly rewarding way. You’ll work one-on-one with a RIC client who truly needs what you can offer and you will get support from a RIC Lead Advocates all along the way. After completing training, an assignment to your RIC client may come any time.

Requirements:

  • Be stable in temperament, with strong and healthy boundaries and a generally positive attitude. Able to work independently and confidentially, understand the scope and limitations of your role, understand when to ask for advice or assistance.

  • Undertake initial advocate training with other advocates and one- on-one with a Lead Advocate.

  • Gain an understanding of Community Resource Partners’ services and other available community supports and services that could potentially help a RIC client through use of our on-line Advocate Resource Guide and through work with the Lead Advocates.

  • Have some flexibility with schedule. Meetings with your client are set informally between you and client. Some periods with a client may be more intensive, requiring one or more in-person or phone contacts with client in a single day; other periods will require less or no contact.

  • Connect personally with your RIC client. Be available to listen to your client’s challenges, help prioritize those challenges, and help the client find and commit to pathways forward to try to meet those challenges. Work closely with Lead Advocate to review your interactions with client and formulate a plan to connect client with specific services and supports.

  • Work with client to implement the plan, including, as needed, helping client to interact with Community Resource Partners and other services.

  • With help from Lead Advocate and Coordinator, provide basic case documentation using our confidential, on-line client tracking system.

  • Use your own, the client’s, RIC’s, and Community Resource Partners’ perspectives to monitor progress on the client’s path forward and to help all involved make course corrections as needed to support their progress.
